2022 LEAGUE OFFERINGS (early bird pricing -$15 for Spring Leagues ends 1/31)

Wheaton Briarcliffe Youth Baseball offers baseball leagues for children aged 4 and up, pre-K through 8th grade. We offer a t-ball division and six baseball divisions, based on age and ability. We also offer four fall ball baseball divisions for those who want to extend their baseball playing past the spring season.

Note: Players should typically be registered for the grade they are currently in. Players can play up one level if parents/coaches feel the child’s experience and skill level is appropriate. Players may not play down a level unless they have a medical reason and the move is approved by the WBYB Board.

Looking for a more competitive environment? We also offer a full and part-time travel offering across many age groups. The full-time travel teams play outside the in-house league and compete against other local teams. The part-time travel teams, also known as tournament teams, compete in tournaments after the in-house season is complete.

Friend-Request Leagues

- T-ball: Instructional development league for players aged 4-5. This is a great way to introduce the player to baseball. Goals of the program are to teach the very basic fundamentals and introduce the player to the necessary rules of baseball (without pitching). Emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship. A light-weight softcore ball is hit off an adjustable batting tee and score is not kept. Teams are grouped by school and/or buddy/coach requests.

- Stallion Jr: Next step up from t-ball, full coach pitch, and available for Kindergarten and 1st graders. Goals of the program are to teach the fundamentals and introduce the player to the necessary rules of baseball. Emphasis continues to be on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Stallion Jr is a progression from T-ball, a light-weight softcore ball is used. Coach pitches up and if the player doesn’t make contact after the sixth pitch, a hitting tee is brought out. Score is not kept. Teams are grouped by school and/or buddy/coach requests.

- Stallion Sr: Next step up from Stallion Jr, offered for 1st graders. Kid pitch is introduced for two innings using a soft core baseball. Goals of the program are to teach the fundamentals and the necessary rules of baseball. Emphasis continues to be on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Stallion Sr is a progression from Stallion Jr, a light-weight softcore ball is used, pitched by a coach for the first 3 innings, and then goes into kid pitch for the last two innings. Score is not kept. Teams are grouped by school and/or buddy/coach requests.

Competitive Leagues

Briarcliffe has a long-standing belief that spreading individual talent across all teams will provide a better baseball experience where players learn sportsmanship, comradery, and baseball fundamentals, while making friends and creating long-lasting memories.

  • Teams are formed via a player evaluation process (friend requests are taken into account, but are not guaranteed). The exception is for siblings and players of coaches that have chosen to coach together (maximum of 3 coaches)
  • Briarcliffe takes great effort to balance player talent across teams as best as possible to ensure exciting games for all participants and prevent lopsided game scores (no fun for anyone)
  • Briarcliffe believes that expanding social networks and learning interpersonal skills in authentic ways is an important part of the youth baseball experience
  • Dropping from the league after team assignments are publicized creates imbalances, potentially impacting several teams (note that refund requests after team assignments will receive a partial refund)
  • If your player's participation is dependent on playing with current classmates and friends (excluding sibling and coaching clusters), Briarcliffe's league offerings may not meet your expectations
  • Any exceptions to the partial-refund-rule will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • For Bronco and Pony divisions, friend and coach requests will be taken under consideration, although balancing teams for competitive purposes may take precedent.

- Pinto Jr: Division for 2nd graders. Coaches pitch three innings and players pitch three innings. Emphasis remains on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Players are introduced to competition as scores are kept and standings are maintained. Players are assigned a team via an evaluation process to maintain competition within the division. (No friend/coach requests).

- Mustang: Division for 3rd and 4th graders. Players pitch all six innings, stealing is introduced (no leadoffs, 2nd base only). Players are assigned a team via an evaluation process to maintain competition within the division. (No friend/coach requests).

- Bronco: Division for 5th and 6th graders. Players pitch all seven innings, leadoffs and permitted, and stealing 2nd/3rd/home is allowed. For Bronco and Pony divisions, friend and coach requests will be taken under consideration, although balancing teams for competitive purposes may take precedent.

- Pony: Division for 7th and 8th graders. Full baseball rules. For Bronco and Pony divisions, friend and coach requests will be taken under consideration, although balancing teams for competitive purposes may take precedent.

Travel Baseball

The travel program creates opportunities for players to participate on a team against surrounding area community teams. This level of competition is generally higher than organizations find within their own in-house programs, so competition to achieve positions on travel teams can be significant. WBYB offers part-time travel (Bulldogs) for younger players (following the in-house season) and full-time travel (Blazers) for older players. See WBYB Travel Programs document for more detailed information.
